Recently, Nina revealed that she only wanted Elena Gilbert’s journey to last six seasons on ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ but HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned that her ex, Ian Somerhalder, is the real reason she quit the series. Find out all the details here!
Fans were totally shocked when Nina Dobrev, 26, announced that she’ll be leaving The Vampire Diaries at the end of its current season. The actress said she had always known that she only wanted to stay on the series for six seasons, but fans couldn’t help but wonder if her failed relationship with co-star Ian Somerhalder, 36, had anything to do with her decision to quit. Well, HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned that it did. Nina felt like it was “too awkward” to continue working with him, following their breakup.
Nina Dobrev Leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Reason — Ian Somerhalder Is To Blame
“The reason Nina quit The Vampire Diaries is because she finds it too awkward to be on set with Ian now that they’ve split. She’s known since June that she was going to quit the show and that the 6th season would be her last. Especially when Nikki [Reed] and Ian got engaged in December — that solidified her decision. It’s not about Nina pursuing bigger roles. It’s just because she can’t stand to work on set with Ian every day,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
UPDATE: THIS IS NOT TRUE AS HER CO-STAR (Michael Malarkey) has said the truth read below:
[su_spoiler title=”Michael Malarkey defends Nina’s decision” style=”fancy” icon=”arrow”]Ninas TVD co-star Michael Malarkey, who plays roguish vamp Enzo, is totally down to set the record straight about Ninas decision to leave The Vampire Diaries. (No, it wasnt because of her breakup with Ian Somerhalder.) “Shes always knew that she was going to leave at the end of this season, so I think there was a lot of speculation about that,” Michael says, “Like, ‘Oh, is she leaving because of this and that’ People just needs to stop reading tabloids!” Michael, who joined the show in season five and quickly became a fan-favorite, totally understands her decision to leave after playing Elena Gilbert (and sometimes Katherine Pierce…and sometimes Tatia…and sometimes Amara) for over 100 episodes. “Everybody has different reasons for doing what they want to do, but in this business, its very important to know when it is your particular time to move on and shes grown up on this show,” he explains. “She was 20 years old when she started it and now shes 26. “I think its exactly the right thing for her to do, in someone in her position in this business. I’m very, very happy shes moving on, although I will miss her. I think shes doing the right thing and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next.”[/su_spoiler]
