Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley will decide as to when “The Vampire Diaries” will end.

The Vampire Diaries” co-creator Julie Plec recently talked about the fate of the hit The CW series after season 7.

In an interview with E! News, Plec said that she recently came to the realization that “The Vampire Diaries” is really about Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley.

“I finally realized that my destiny on this show, creatively, is tied in to Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. And I mean that in a good way. As long as those boys who I now consider my friends want to keep telling the story, then I won’t walk away from telling the story,” she said.

Meanwhile, Plec added that if one or both Somerhalder and Wesley will inform her that they no longer want to be part of “The Vampire Diaries,” that’s the time she would have the show cancelled.

“When they are ready to be done telling the story – which could be tomorrow and could be a year from now or two years from now or whatever — I will put my pencil down and say that I’m done too, and then we will work together to end it in the best way possible,” she said.

Plec added that when it’s time to say goodbye to the series, she, Somerhalder and Wesley will make the creative decision on how the show will end.

In other news, Plec also spoke with Variety about former cast member Nina Dobrev.

According to the exec, she misses Dobrev terribly, and she’s still open to taking her back on the show.

“Yes, I miss her deeply and would take her back in an instant if she called and said, ‘Hey, can I come back?’ But purely from a creative point of view, it’s been a real new infusion of creative fun,” she said.

The Vampire Diaries” season 7 will return to The CW on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET.

[su_spoiler title=”‘The Downward Spiral’ Scoop! #6×16″ style=”simple” icon=”arrow”]That said, according to what Kai (Chris Wood) tells Damon (Ian Somerhalder) in a new preview clip from “The Downward Spiral,” our hunch is correct. Unfortunately for Damon though, this isn’t good news. Why? Because it means his mother abandoned her sons when they needed her the most, and never bothered to contact them after they turned! “Whatever, whoever is on that tape is not her. I know my mother. She is not a vampire. She is not in a prison world. She died of consumption in 1858,” he says, clearly in denial. He even goes as far as to dig up his mom’s coffin just to prove his point![/su_spoiler]

Mmm! Do you smell all the delicious holiday spirit permeating through the air? Egg nog and holly and candy cane dreams…oh my! And there just so happens to be a sprig of mistletoe conveniently hanging over the Salvatore Boarding House doorway? How perfect! Unfortunately all the beautiful traditions and Mystic Falls flashbacks featuring Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline as a trio of ordinary giddy schoolgirls (who, by the way, are blissfully unaware that their lives will soon be torn asunder by good-looking bloodsuckers) will be marred by three things: a. Stefan delivering devastating news to Care Bear, b. Enzo forcing Matt to help him “deplete every ounce of happiness from Stefan’s life, and c. Kai continuing his messy ritual of killing “friends” and family members during annual celebrations.

If Malachi Parker hasn’t already been placed on Santa’s naughty list, his behavior in The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 10 certainly will earn him a prime spot. According to the extended preview trailer, Kai not only stabs his own sister Jo inside a dingy crypt and then tries to siphon Liv’s magic (again), but he also targets Elena and knocks her out with a crowbar. Honestly, he needs to take a chill pill, kick his feet up, and indulge in a gourmet hot chocolate beverage — you know, in place of MURDER AND TORTURE.

What else is going on in Mystic Falls? Well, a handful of characters appear to be lingering at the local hospital so that’s a pretty alarming sign. Not only that, but they have tears in their eyes and are hugging it out hardcore which can only mean one thing: One of our precious endangered species – humans! — is in mortal danger.  Ay yi yi. Let’s just hope Enzo kept his neck-snapping hands off the “blond bowl of mush known as Matt Donovan.” Oh, and to add salt to injury, Bonnie is spending Christmas alone. Something about a winter holiday in May just doesn’t seem fun. Poor girl. #BringBonBonHome!

Anyway, enough of our semi-freaking out. Catch all the misery and near fatal attacks in the official promo video for “Christmas Through Your Eyes” below! Then drop us a comment telling us what you’d love to put in Kai’s stocking this year.

Damon and Elena in The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 6 promo

Damon’s back.
Meanwhile, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) isn’t happy either — but mostly with Ric. “My best friend compelled my beautiful and lovely girlfriend to forget she ever loved me. How great, Ric!” he shouts sarcastically. And don’t worry yet, folks, because it gets worse. The sneak peek video shows several alarming scenes including the following: a. Tripp threatening to take Enzo (Michael Malarkey) on a sightseeing tour of Mystic Falls if he doesn’t relinquish the names and whereabouts of his bloodsucking friends; b. Ric shoving his arm right through the driver side window of Tripp’s murder van; c. Damon getting ambushed and shot by hunters in Elena’s dorm room; d. Damon walking up with a neck cramp in the same room as Enzo and muttering “I came back for this?”; and e. a major car crash – yes, another one! – between Tripp’s van and another vehicle.
First of all, within the image below, we spy poor Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) chained up by some monstrous-looking shackles. Although we feel terrible that Dr. Maxifeld (Rick Cosnett) injected him with that experimental serum and Ripper-fied him, we know that the only reason Damon is all tied up with nowhere to go (much like Uncle Mason was in that Season 2 episode where he freaking bled on Damon’s vintage and very expensive rug after getting his heart yanked out) is because he poses a danger to himself and to other vampires. His BFF Enzo (Michael Malarkey) also appears in the new shots and he looks mega worried.
